You know that little voice in your head that whispers,
âYouâre not good enough.â
âPeople like you donât succeed.â
âWhy even try?â
That voice? Itâs not just your Chimp acting up.
Itâs often powered by something sneakier:
Gremlins and Goblins.
No, we havenât switched to a Harry Potter blog.
Gremlins and Goblins are realâjust not the kind hiding under your bed.
Theyâre hiding in your mind.
đ§ What Are Gremlins and Goblins?
According to The Chimp Paradox, these are the beliefs and behaviors that live in your brainâs âComputerâ system.
đŚ Gremlins
These are false beliefs youâve picked up somewhere along the wayâmaybe from childhood, past trauma, or failure. They often sound like:
- âIâm not lovable.â
- âIâll never be enough.â
- âPeople will always leave.â
Theyâre not trueâbut they feel true because theyâve been repeated in your mind so often, your Chimp treats them like gospel.
đ§ Goblins
These are even deeper, more ingrained beliefsâusually formed early in life or through repeated emotional experiences. Theyâre harder to spot but have major influence.
Think of them like operating systems running in the background. You don’t always see them, but they control the way you respond to life.
đ§ââď¸ My Personal Gremlins
Iâll be honestâbeing blind, Iâve wrestled with more than a few Gremlins.
Things like:
âIâm a burden.â
âPeople only help me because they feel sorry for me.â
âSuccess is for people who can see the path.â
These beliefs werenât factsâthey were fears, born out of moments where my Chimp felt unsafe or rejected. And the more I fed them, the louder they became.
But hereâs what Iâve learned:
Just because youâve believed something for years doesnât make it true.
It makes it familiar. And familiarity isnât the same as truth.
đ How to Unmask Your Gremlins
1. Name Them
Write down those painful inner thoughts. If it feels heavy or sharp, chances areâit’s a Gremlin.
2. Question Them
Ask: âWhere did I learn this?â
âIs this absolutely true?â
âWould I say this to someone I love?â
3. Replace Them
Once you identify a toxic belief, rewrite it.
Instead of: âIâm not enough,â try: âIâm learning and growing, and thatâs more than enough.â
4. Repeat the Truth
Repetition is how your Computer got programmed in the first place. Repeating healthy, true beliefs creates new pathways that your Chimp will eventually trust.
đ§đ˝ Reprogramming Takes Time
Hereâs the thing: your Gremlins didnât show up overnight, and they wonât leave overnight either. But with awareness, consistency, and compassionâyou can shift your mental programming.
And when you do, your Chimp has less reason to panic.
Because now your Computer is feeding it strengthânot fear.
